Costume Freaks

Mai-Otome HGIF gashapons and DearS v4.

DearS v4 I haven’t read yet but odds are it’ll be the same as in the previous volumes. At least it’ll meet my daily requirement of ero-licious art to drool over ;)

The Mai-Otome gashapons are the first “secret” item I ordered as I mentioned in a previous entry. I’m actually surprised they arrived this early as I expected the HLJ or CDJapan order instead, plus the seller in HK only mailed them out before the weekend. Costing only $20, the second series in Mai-HiME gashapons vastly improved over its predecessor. The base stands are like 1/3 the size of the figures, hopefully ensuring less to no tilting as time goes by. The gashapons themselves are of decent make, and what can be expected of gashapons in general, though some of them were a tad annoying to put together. Yukariko has the weirdest stance while Mashiro was an pain in the arse to do, mostly because of the coat. Of course, my favorite one of the set has to be the bikini clad Natsuki… loved how they also included her HiME mark too!

This week should be decently packed with, hopefully, a bunch of packages being delivered. Praying the mailing system does it job, I should get School Rumble v7 FP, Nana Mizuki’s “ETERNAL BLAZE”, Fate/Stay Night TF, Gundam SEED Destiny Heroines #3, and Neon Genesis Evangelion Sadamoto gashapons. Oh Goddess of Spending, be kind on your avatar this coming November!

Death wo Sagashite

2 copies of Death Note v1 and Full Moon wo Sagashite v2-3.

No, I’m not some Death Note crazed fan that needs two copies of the manga; you know, one for safe keeping and the other for bathroom reading. One copy goes to Jan since he was interested in the series and the other for yours truly.

Death Note is well, Death Note. There’s simply no reason not to read the manga.

Full Moon wo Sagashite v2-3 continues Mitsuki’s adventures as a 12 year old turned 16 year old rising singer, with the help of two Shinigamis (death gods). It’s cute, Arina Tanemura’s art rocks, and the story at times is surprisingly mature giving the nature of the series. For anyone that loved the anime but have yet read the manga, I urge them to do so now! The manga walks a different, more “realistic” route of the ups and downs of being an idol singer along with having a very diverse and interesting cast. I’m really liking how any major player in the series eventually gets a decent backstory as it makes you feel more attached to the character, making them all that more loveable to the reader. ;)

BTW, I wasn’t expecting these today since I only got the shipping confirmation yesterday. Go Amazon!? I was actually hoping for my CDJapan (School Rumble & Nana Mizuki) or HLJ (Eva gashapons) package. Not that I’m complaining mind you. Oh well, there’s always hope for tomorrow! Now to try to install and play Fate/Hollow Ataraxia

Colourful

Nanao Naru art, gotta love it!

Speaking of wallpapers, sorry for the delay of my “How-to” wallpaper tutorial that was suppose to be done yesterday. The changing of seasons has pretty much turned my house into a icebox, so I’m lacking more motivation than usual as I stay under the blankets for warmth. I should have the tutorial done by this weekend at the latest, if not by tomorrow. Sorry for the delay folks!

Amassing a Harem

Only GIRLS Bravo v1 and DearS v2 from my TRSI order. Threw in the October issue of Stuff just for kicks and giggles. Speaking about TRSI orders, DearS v4 got shipped today so that’ll be something nice to expect next week. As if I wasn’t getting enough crap in the coming weeks, the past couple of days my $8 year subscription to FHM, Stuff, and Maxim have kicked in. Already got two issues of Maxim and Stuff… now just got to wait to see if FHM will ever arrive. ;)

GIRLS Bravo v1 was pretty decent. Not as over-the-top in terms of fanservice like it’s anime counterpart, the manga’s beautiful artwork and more normal (and perverted) male protagonist made it a fun read. For those that enjoyed the anime, the manga is a definite buy as it keeps true to the series’ roots but offers a more… er.. realistic take? Sorta. Not sure how to describe it… screw it! If anything, buy the manga for Mario Kaneda’s art! It’s ero-licious!

Another harem and fanservice series, DearS v2 continues on pretty much like the anime. Really not much to say about the series, given its genre, other than PEACH-PIT’s artistic skills are just as ero-licious as Mario’s! Definite bonus of volume two had to be the small pull out poster of Ren and it’s unfortunate Tokyopop did not continue the trend for the rest of the volumes; that is, unless it was the same for the original japanese version.

In other bank breaking news, I had to cancel my orders for To Heart 2 LE v1, Air Memories, and MegaHouse RAHDX Meer Campbell. Really sad too as I was looking forward to those orders but after the crap I ordered yesterday it had to be done. I won’t mention what I ordered yesterday but let’s just say it broke the moy bank even more. The first item should be coming in next week, being the Fate/Stay Night trading figures I wanted so badly. Not a horrible deal either as the box of 12 was the last one in stock, with each figure costing $5.75. A lot better than Chinatown’s Elizabeth Center’s $10 per figure!

*still heart broken about no Meer figure, especially after seeing these photos *

LegenDARY

Saturday. Now with Matt home for the weekend figured Jan, Matt, and myself could do brunch for once. Too bad we keep saying we’ll do brunch but never get up in time to do it. Also didn’t help that I stayed up until 6am doing random stuff and didn’t get up until 3pm of the same day. Plans ruined again by late sleeping, I figured I’ll just be bumming since I knew Jan had a boatload of schoolwork to do and Matt had a dentist appointment and his grandmother’s birthday to attend to. Little did I know when Matt called me around 5pm that the next several hours would lead to the stuff of legends… of stupidity.

Last second indecision eventually left Jan, Matt, and myself to haul our collective arses to the theater to try to watch Good Night, Good Luck at 5:45pm. Problem was we decided this at 5:30pm. I unfortunately being the driver had to go like a madman in the rain to pick up the two fools; let’s just say I’m surprised I didn’t get into an accident by the time we got to the theater. Just when we think we’ll make it, we found out the movie is already sold out! I honestly didn’t want to pay full price for a ticket but we spent like the next hour on Matt’s Blackberry on the ‘net trying to figure which movie might be worthwhile. Know what we decided on? NOTHING.

Leaving the theater, we decided to go to Beyond Bagels, which is some bagel store that has been around for a good half an year that we always say we should go to but never do. The one attempt Jan and I had before, the store happened to closed that day only! Anyway, before going to Beyond Bagels we headed to Toys R Us because “we never wanna grow up cause we’re toys r us kids…” Spent a good 30 or so minutes just looking around and the like. Jan was tempted to buy this $6 G1 Transformer he sort of wanted while Matt was off-handily thinking of buying X-Men 2: Legends so we could all play. Neither of them bought anything as we realized if we wanted to play the game, we should rent it instead. Yes, it took a good 10+ minutes for college educated individuals to realize this.

I forgot to mention, but throughout the whole time we were repeating lines from How I Met Your Mother like “This is going to be legendary!”, “(Snow) Suit Up”, or “*hand gestures* it’s only going to be this much fun”. I think one has to had watch the show to get the jokes but much to say, the way the jokes were used in the show were exactly how it was happening with us. Just when we think we have a “great” plan it always fall through for some reason or another. Anyway…

… as I was driving back towards Blockbuster/home, we left the decision up to Jan whether or not we were going to rent the game. We knew he had a lot of work to get done so if he wanted to go home, there was just no point in going to Blockbuster. Jan in his usual indeciviseness eventually said he should go home to do work… only to frickin’ change his damn mind after I past the turn to go to Blockbuster. The reason? He rationalized that he could bring and do his work to whomever’s house we’ll be playing the game at. Jan, man, decide faster damnit! Not wanting to make a u-turn in the rain, we went to Jan’s house first so he could pick up his supplies. While Jan was getting his stuff, I randomly worried that Blockbuster might not even have the game for rent; especially considering our luck for the night. Matt only made things worse when he called home only to find out his brother Jason (rightfully) took the PS2 back to college! Not so bad, both Jan and I had a PS2 but we needed a multi-tap… which based on his parents wasn’t home either. Around this time, Jan came back to the car only to hear the bad news. At this point, I was basically “ah fuck it whatever!” so off we headed to Blockbuster.

I won’t say much about our findings at Blockbuster but much to say, we left sans game but at least had korean movie OLDBOY in hand. I’ve heard good things about the movie but couldn’t remember what it was about so the choice was iffy. We were batting 0 for 1293 at this point so I hoped like crazy I was vaguely right about the movie.

A great dinner at Matt’s later, we popped in the movie. After 2 hours we were all like, “wow.” Simply a great ultimate revenge type movie. Everything in the movie in general was pretty good and I personally loved the apartment hallway fight scene the best; the way it was shot was different from the norm. The short sex and nude scenes were cool too btw ;) I definitely can recommend the movie to anyone in general. OLDBOY was a good thinker type-movie plus was tons better than the fluff and cheese of the average HK movie!

Thus ended my saturday night. Nothing wild or crazy. No trying to pick up girls at the local airport. No getting taken away by airport security only to be released hours later. No accidentally walking on an old man in the bathroom. No licking the Liberty Bell. Just an slightly not-so average boring night between the guys and what happens inbetween. For all of us, while we didn’t get to see the movie we initially picked we still ended watching a good movie nonetheless. For one individual, it was just good quality time with old friends. For another, it was better than just lounging at home. And for the last, made him delay working his arse off even further. Whatever the reasons, the past saturday had its ups and downs with vast amounts of foolishness but yet was still one of the more enjoyable times of recent history.

… even with all my complaining and idle threats to drop the other two like flies.
