Black Friday

Ill-gotten gains from Black Friday plus the Fate/Stay Night and Air 2006 calendars.

Another Thanksgiving, another Black Friday sale. After last year waiting at Best Buy the whole fricking day for a PC for my parents, my friends and I all wisely decided just going clothes shopping would be the better choice. So instead, just like two years ago, we headed to Jersey Gardens to see what worthwhile clothes were on sale. Surprisingly not many good deals were going on this year. I only picked up four dress shirts, a light sweater, and some pants for a total of $110. Not too bad considering normally they would cost double the price.

On the anime front, finally got my two calendars from CDJapan. The Fate/Stay Night one isn’t too badly sized though being bigger than I expected. As for the layout of the calendar, it’s basically set up with a CG from the recent Fate/hollow ataraxia game on top and two given months on the bottom. The last “page” is dedicated to 2007 with various SD sized images of the cast. Meanwhile, the huge Air calendar is just as wonderful to look at. Each sheet has an main image taking up 90% of the space while the rest is dedicated to two-given months. I honestly haven’t seen any of the images included in the Air calendar until now, so at least to me the art is all new :)

Now I only have two questions after receiving the calendars. For one, where the heck am I going to put them? I thought the Fate/Stay Night was going to be small and not a normal sized calendar. The Air I thought would have been like the Tenjo Tenge 2005 calendar I got, literally being separate sheets. Unfortunately they’re all stuck together and I’m too afraid to rip them to frame. My second, and more important question, is where is my CDJapan order that shipped out over two weeks ago?! The calendar one only shipped a little over a week ago and it arrived before the older order! What the…

Good Old Japan

Interesting article from the NY Times. Thanks to laughing-demon over at the iistix forums for posting it.

All I can say is I guess this is Japan’s way to compromise for its population of small male genital huh? Boost their own egos by trying to be like the western civilization while poking fun at their asian neighbors. I smell a tad bit of jealousy and ignorance here don’t you? Another way to look at it was if the world was like a elementary school playground and various nations represented as kids, Japan would be the dorky one trying his damnest to be part of the “in” crowd. Only instead making a total arse of himself in the process.

Good job Japan. You’ve renewed my faith that world leaders and intellectuals are all just jealous little five years old at heart trying to be the “coolest” one of the group.

Unlimited Doujin Works

Tony Taka’s “Runar!” and “Caladbolg.”

I’m surprised the two doujinshis arrived early considering it was via SAL, and we all know how much SAL varies in arrival time. Not that I’m complaining mind you. Anyway, I paid an arm, a leg, and half my soul to pick up these two recent Tony Taka works. T2’s art style is very ero in nature (like Oh!Great of Tenjo Tenge and Air Gear fame) so it’s little surprise he’s rather popular with the male otaku crowd. So was it worth my hard earn money? Even if I already have both doujins on my computer? You betcha!

“Runar!” is Tony Taka’s most recent work featuring the girls of Gundam SEED Destiny in very ero-ero poses; Lunamaria Hawke getting the most coverage. There’s also some drawings of Meryin, Lacus, and Cagalli among other things found in the 20-odd paged color and b/w doujinshi. All the drawings very pleasing to the male eyes! For a Lunamaria fan like myself, “Runar!” was a must have at any cost (and boy did it cost me). I’m definitely happy with the doujin… on many levels :)

“Caladbolg” features Saber and Rin (and Shirou to some extent) from Fate/Stay Night in various ero poses and pornographic situations. Nice that this one had a short story compared to “Runar!,” which was all just various drawings of the girls; not that “Caladbolg” doesn’t also feature some of the other girls of F/SN as such. Rin and Saber, however, take up the majority of the pages found in this 20-something paged color and b/w doujinshi. And for a TYPE-MOON fan such as I, much like “Runar!,” I had to get this doujin at all cost!

I’m really happy about finally getting some Tony Taka work, even with the high prices I paid for them. My only problem now is how to display these two beauties without anyone actually looking through them! Apparently my parents looked through my Oh!Great “Naked Star” book without me knowing, until my mom randomly questioned about it. Of course she was just riding my chops but still, I didn’t need my mom to have more ammo against me!

Happy Birthday Indeed

I was pretty depressed that I didn’t get any of my five or so packages delivered yesterday but the postman made it up in spades by having three of my packages today! One order each from CDJapan, HLJ, and DeepDiscountDVD respectively :)

Probably the two things I enjoyed the most was getting the MegaHouse Lunamaria Hawke v2 figure and the Saber in casual clothing trading card in the Fate/hollow ataraxia Hollow CD Single. For the trading card, I didn’t know what to expect since the only other card I’ve seen was of Bazett Fraga McRemitz. I guess there’s a whole set to collect if you don’t mind having 328 copies of the CD. Fortunately doesn’t matter to me since I got the Sabar card! On the Lunamaria Hawke figure, surprised how detailed it is and the differences between the Stellar one I also have. For example, like how Lunamaria has bigger thighs than Stellar…

Staring at 2D based figures aside, I would have had this post done earlier if not for the fact I noticed my DVD player and/or my TV overscans, thereby cropping out part of the image shown. I’ve never noticed this until now so I pretty freaked trying to figure out what the problem was. $20 later after buying actual component cables, the problem is the same but I sort of figured out how to lessen it. If anything else, at least the picture is a bit cleaner and clearer with the new cable. The better picture quality can at least be my cold comfort over the horrible fact general DVD watching now gets slightly “cropped” for no apparent reason :(
