Hakua Ugetsu’s WORKS Flamboyant

6/20/2005

I love you amazon.co.jp! Miracles of miracles, I was somehow lucky enough to order Hakua Ugetsu’s WORKS Flamboyant artbook for $31 even though now, it’s unavailable on their site and retails elsewhere online for $50+. :)

All I can say is… “whoa.” So beautiful! I seriously wish I had a scanner so I can show people just how wonderful Hakua Ugetsu’s art really is. He easily makes it to my top four favorite anime-related artists; Oh! Great, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and Yoshitaka Amano being the other three of course. Anyway, the artbook contains a good amount of Bakuretsu Tenshi work since it’s probably his most recent work, including some fun character sketches of the crew (Jo in facial expressions and clothes one would never think possible). I would say that makes up about half the book while the rest are various other works, all deliciously eye-pleasing in my opinion (love the Saber piece from Fate/Stay Night). And I can’t forget the two fold out posters with artwork on both sides… simply beautiful and there is no way in hell I’ll ever be taking those out of the book.

… now I wish I had order two copies, one to have more or less untouch while the other to “use and abuse” so to speak. I’ll leave off with some crappy camera shots of the artbook to wet your whistle while drooling over Hakua Ugetsu’s killer designs.

His artwork is beautiful! Yes, I do agree the appeal is meant for guys, but I don’t care.

You need to loosen up, Rainy.

This art book looks great, I have been thinking about whether to get this book or not for a while now. Its either this or Orange or maybe Art of the Wired. I love looking at character sketches by artist. Anyways, is this book free of hentai, because I really dislike it. Thanks x

free of hentai, yes. Free of some eechi-ness, no. But it’s all tastefully done so I don’t think you’ll have a problem.

I really recommend anyone, especially anime fans, to pick up this artbook if possible. The art is just absolutely terrific to look at! I was actually tempted to order another copy a few weeks back when amazon.co.jp restocked the item. ;)
