This is for you, Stripey

Mangaoh drains my money again thanks to Dengeki G’s Festival v4, featuring Da Capo II. Once again, I must blame DarkMirage for buying the magazine first and showing off the included goodies that I “had” to get a copy myself. And just like DarkMirage, I really only bought it for the Nanaka pass card holder which I’m still debating whether to actually use. I think, however, the majority of people buying the magazine probably did it for the Yume pillow case which isn’t bad but I’m just not much of a fan of character pillow cases. I should note, one should probably take the previous statement with a grain of salt considering how I now have two hug pillow cases (first one). Go fig. Beside the pillow case and pass card holder, there’s also a cool mini puzzle of the two Asakura siblings; kind of cool but once again, I’m not a big fan of the girls. I know Stripey would probably say differently
For the magazine, seems pretty similar to the To Heart 2 X-RATED (Dengeki G’s Festival v3) one where they do character profiles, game info, etc about the series. Probably the most interesting part is the interview with three of the seiyuus though for non-japanese reading folks like myself, is lost upon me pass the pretty images.
Overall Dengeki G’s Festival v4 was not a bad purchase. The Nanaka fanboy in me agrees spending $35 just to get the pass card holder was totally worth it! Anyway, this should be one of two packages I receive this week as Mai-HiME v2 should be arriving in a day or two. Beside the Mai-HiME DVD, maybe two more DVDs will be delivered next week which will round off the packages for the month. I should, however, be getting a buttload of packages the beginning of July since most of the merchandise I have on order are released at the end of the month. I don’t know what will be worse, getting all those packages or seeing the bill for said pacakges!

Day of Delivery III

I somehow hit the jackpot in terms of packages yesterday. I was only expecting my GunGrave boxset from TRSI but to my surprise, there were two more packages when I went to check the mail. One from DVDPlanet with their recent Geneon/Pioneer sale. The other from HLJ with three figures. I think the most surprising was the HLJ package as it came in eight days! The fastest I’ve ever gotten a package from HLJ using SAL! So I guess having a bigger box means faster delivery time or I just got plain lucky.
Anyway, on with the packages. I mentioned before, but the first package was from TRSI with my GunGrave boxset only for $50! I’m glad I waited on picking up the DVDs for so long, the series originally aired like three-four years ago, since one simply cannot beat getting the whole collection plus box for the price. More so when the thinpak still current going price of $130. Now only to wait for a weekend to open up so I can re-watch the entire series in one sitting
Next package was DVDPlanet with Doki Doki School Hours v2-4 and GIRLS Bravo v5. Let me tell you how happy I was in getting GIRLS Bravo v5 for the cheap as the volume contained some of the best and funniest episodes of the series! If there was one volume I had to recommend to any viewer, it would be this one. Sure first time viewers would be a little lost but I don’t think that would take away from the overall hilarity of the four episodes on the DVD. One can just look at my old blog entries to see how much I enjoyed them! Taking a 180 degree turn in terms of genre, Doki Doki School Hours was pretty much your standard high school comedy with repetitive jokes that still had me laughing the entire time. The “second season”/ova episodes were especially great, more so since I didn’t know they existed and thus were completely new to me. One can tell by then the animators and directors gave up on any type of school life plot and decided to just have fun with the characters
Lastly, the HLJ package. MH RAHDX Lunamaria Hawke flightsuit version, GSC 1/8 Ono Kanako, and Revoltech Getter 1 were my ill-gotten gains this time around. Getter 1 was a lot smaller than I thought. I think this has mostly to do with any photos I saw of the figure were close ups with nothing for me to scale it by. Not that it’s a bad figure. Revoltech posable design works pretty well and it’s pretty amazing what stands you can put the figure in. Unfortunately since I lack creativity, my Getter is in a pretty normal pose holding the huge arse battle axe it has. Speaking of mechas, the pilot for Impulse Gundam, Lunamaria Hawke rocks and so does her newest PVC from MH. If Zyl could see how just awesome the figure is, he’ll be crying even more tears! Comparing the flightsuit versus Zaft uniform Lunamaria, it seems she looks a lot skinnier in the flightsuit. Maybe it’s just lighting, I having bad eyes, or both but I definitely prefer the newest offering of Lunamaria from MH way more than their previous releases. With the topic of female figurine proportions still in your mind, Ohno’s figure from GSC is just great to stare at, at times. I can’t describe it in words but I’ll just say I loved the look of the PVC as soon as I saw the initial designs. Buying the figure once it was released was no brainer with 0% of regret.
That’s it in terms of packages I should be receiving for awhile. I might receive something at the end of the week from Mangaoh mattering how fast they get and ship out my order. Some folks may know what it is already but if not, just know it’s all DarkMirage’s fault.
One last random bit for the day. The BBQ yesterday was pretty good with way too much left over food. Good food good times though I could have done without all the usual Moy jokes. I swear I’m the fall-back guy to make fun of if there’s nothing good to discuss or do. Anyway, most people remotely interested in anything with Japan will probably know about Hard Gay. Of course, this includes me too. The thing is I know of him and what he does but I’ve never actually sat down and watched some of HG’s clips. That changed at the BBQ as Linn showed us a bunch of videos about HG thanks to Youtube. I have to say straight off I find the idea of HG pretty frickin’ stupid; basically the Japanese version of Jackass and god knows how much I hate Jackass. However, at least HG is stupid funny in the sense his antics don’t actually harm himself or the people involve. HG is like the modern day clown while Jackass are simply idiots with too much time on their hands also showing how low-brow (and stupid) Americans can be. Okay, with that said and off my chest I have to admit I was cracking up as much as everyone else watching HG try to “help” people. HG is ultimately stupid as hell but so entertaining at the same time. If one hasn’t heard or watched Hard Gay yet, I highly suggest heading over to Youtube to sample some of his er… fine work. Trust me, you’ll be laughing in no time!
All three packages
DVD Planet package: Doki Doki School Hours v2-4 and GIRLS Bravo v5
TRSI package: GunGrave boxset
HLJ package: Lunamaria Hawke, Ono Kanako, and Getter 1
Items unwrapped in all their naked glory

Happy 69

Another week another 897261 reasons to be broke. Spending hasn’t gone down at all with recent sales by the usual online retailers. Also just pre-ordering my first anime-related PC game ever isn’t helping expenses. Now I know why I avoided not buying anime games, especially for the PC, since it’s expensive as hell! $112 for one game?! Damn. I somehow keep forgetting anime is an expensive hobby.
Another week another 530 reasons to lose sleep. I have been putting more hours at work recently helping train the new guy, which would normally be fine. More hours equal more money right? Only problem is doing morning shift combined with the extended hours has left me drained to do anything else than catch up on the anime of the day. I know putting in 40-45 hours/week of work should be normal but after months of the night shift at 35-40 hours/week, the current schedule is starting to take its toll. Then again, I don’t have much right to complain compared to Matt who normally puts in 80+ hours/week at his workplace. Well he is making a hell of a lot more money than me but still, 80+ hours/week must be crazy!
Another week another 2 reasons to BBQ. Finally treating out the guys to food paid off. Apparently there will be some BBQ action this weekend hosted by Wai and Linn, crappy weather or not. Sounds good to me; haven’t been to a BBQ in awhile. I’ll only have to live through the guys’ usual jokes about me from the First Annual Moy BBQ, dry chicken and all. Over five years ago and they still bring it up! I’ll admit it was a pretty stupid comment and if the tables were turned, I’ll be doing the same, but still they don’t need to remind me everytime anything remotely related to food is brought up… damn it.
One more thing, this is amusing to the nth degree. If you haven’t already, read it. Now.
