PSP Meet PS3

Many thanks to DarkMirage/ThePaper for his post on the PSP and the fun of hacking. Spent the past day or so finally installing some homebrews like emulators for the SNES and Genesis plus playing PSX and PSP (ISO) games. Now I can finally use my PSP for gaming instead of an expensive paper weight. May have to get a bigger memory stick as I don’t think 1GIG will be enough if I plan to have game ISOs on it. And speaking of ISOs, Bleach Heat the Soul 3 is pretty rockin’. Sadly, it’s 100x easier than old school Altered Beast for the Sega Genesis which goes to show just how annoying Altered Beast was and still is after all these years ;)

Moving on, yes I got the 60GIGs PS3 this past Friday. Honestly, just like the Wii I picked up another next gen console randomly and for no good reason. At least this time, it didn’t involve waiting 5+ hours outside in the cold. I literally walked into Gamespot and picked one up like nothing. Only reason I even knew they had any was my coworker Chris’ younger brother called him mentioning he noticed they had them (he used to work there); after work we headed straight there and simply asked. Money was exchanged and two PS3s found new owners. Simple as that.

I should probably mention, ironically enough, when I went to BestBuy today (writing this on Dec 31st) to use a few gift cards I received for X-Mas I saw a stack of a dozen or so 60GIGs PS3 laying around. So now that got me wondering why people are complaining about there not being enough? The past few days alone I must have now seen a good 20 or so on sale at cost. I guess folks just don’t want to pony up the 600USD for the unit huh?

On the PS3 and its various features, I must say it’s pretty pimp. Probably spent a good hour downloading all available demos for the US. Personally I’ve enjoyed playing Genji and Motorstorm the most. Genji reminds me a lot of Dynasty Warriors where you basically hack through everything plus the Kamui ability (like a variation of bullet time) is interesting. Motorstorm is just great at how detail the crashes you’ll eventually get into are; if the game is going to be multi-player I’ll definitely be picking it up on its March 2007 release. Resistance -Fall of Man- is pretty kick arse for FPS though I’m kind of bad at it since I’m used to a keyboard and mouse (years of crappily playing CS). I did end up buying the actual game though, since it is pretty good plus is multi-player so once I get some more controllers it should be a ball to play with the guys. GT was pretty fun and my brother already unlocked all 10 cars; now I’m just trying to figure out how to successfully drift in the drift trials ^^;;

For all the talk and fun I’m currently having with the PS3, I have a feeling just like the Wii, once my normal work schedule starts up again I won’t really have time to play. It’ll just be another expensive decoration in my room that I’ll use once in awhile. I know I’m at least buying FFXIII and FFXIII Versus when they comes out as the trailers alone have me interested. As my brother said, the guy in Versus is Archer (F/SN)! Also I’ll have to start looking into (anime) Blu-Ray as more of them come out. Good to know Japan and the US are in the same region so I can actually play Japanese discs without hacking my player. Air looks good but I already have the DVDs and I’m not that much of a nut to re-buy the series just because it’s on Blu-Ray. Plus I don’t have the money for it anyways.

… not like I really had the money to buy the PS3 either, but… :aorz:

Shrine Maidens and Maids

Last of my pre-seasonal packages finally arrived today. Shrine Maiden Rin plushie from F/HA and Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu v6 LE should complete any and all packages I’ll receive for the rest of the year. Starting next year I’ll have to actually budget my spending better or else… one of my New Years’ resolutions I guess?

For Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu v6, the next to last DVD for the series included one of my favorite episodes, “Live a Live” which rocked seeing in all its DVD glory. I didn’t notice any real additional footage between that episode and the game one; for the concert episode there was only a bit more shown of the school festival and more shots of the girls during the actual concert. Beside rounding out some of the best episodes of the series, the dvd included yet another “let’s follow Aya Hirano” extra. For more information and screen shots, please check my other blog. Also like previous volumes, there is a “secret” directory once you insert the disc into your computer. This time it is ten shots of Tsuruya-san. I guess for the last volume, they will be going with Haruhi for the secret directory?

Oh yes, I did get another SP sticker sheet. Two out of seven isn’t too bad so far :)

Giving to Thyself

Let’s be honest here, the holiday season has nothing to do with the various religious events or good will towards your fellow men normally associated with the times. What the holiday season is really about is spending, gifts, uncomfortable family gatherings, drinking, getting laid, and vacation time from work/school. Simple as that.

Since I’ve already done three out of the five above, I think I can say my holiday break was nice and quiet. Really didn’t do much but that suited me fine considering how crappy the weather is right now (it’s raining in NJ). All I’m dreading now is going back to work tomorrow after bumming for so long :(

Let me not forget, however, to mention the gifts; self bought unfortunately. Over the past few weeks received for the holiday season four figures, three DVDs, two CDs, and one ero-game. If I had any talent, I would have tried to parody the “twelve days of Christmas” song but I don’t so I won’t. Thankfully.

Mai Marketing Scheme

Tis the season to be jolly… at least for those with steady incomes and good financial management. For everyone else, well it’s still the season to be jolly but also a time to see how long you’ll be eating only Cup of Ramen due to holiday spending. For me, I think I only have to live off the stuff for half a year to recuperate from this year’s lost.
