Hottest Ever

8/3/2006

I finally left my hikikomori-like lifestyle, at least temporarily, as I ventured into NYC the past weekend all because I have a big fat mouth. Definitely was not one of my smartest moves in life considering it was one of the hottest weekends of the summer! I’m such a genius aren’t I?

The beginnings of this tale of LOVE, COURAGE, FRIENDSHIP, and JUSTICE all happened because I thought Matt* was coming back for the night and going back to NY the following day. So, being the genius I am, off-handily said to him I’ll go back to NY with him and chill for the day. Unfortunately, he ended not come back, yet still thought I was going to go to the city either way. Under normal circumstances, I’d say no and just bum around home but since I had a three day weekend with nothing better to do, I figured what the heck. I even dragged James and Birdie along for the adventure since I always hate going solo. Friendship (read: boredom) at its best!

We arrived at the PATH station in Harrison without problem, though the Metrocard machines gave me one heck of a time when I tried to use my credit card. Stupid machine. Once we reached the city, we headed straight to Time Square to meet up with Matt so we could buy tickets to a Broadway show for the day. Only problem was the ticket booth that’s normally in the middle of Time Square wasn’t there anymore! Matt was already there before we were so when we met half way, he said it moved “somewhere around our area.” Also nearby, most importantly, there was a topless girl with only some type of stickers covering her nipples playing guitar and taking photos for money. Yes, Matt who has a pretty good looking girlfriend, had his priorities as such. He should be thankful the girlfriend is in another country right now as I doubt she’d have liked him oogling the topless girl had she been around.

Matt’s fidelity aside, the group walked towards where the ticket booth used to be as there’s a map detailing the new location which Matt somehow didn’t read correctly as we realized: 1. topless girl wasn’t bad looking. 2. the location where the new ticket booth is was the street LITERALLY to the left of us and not three block down where Matt thought it was. 3. The maps were frickin’ huge so there’s no way any normal person would not have figured out where the location was… unless there happened to be a topless girl with stickers on her breasts playing guitar and taking photos for money. :aorz:**

Anyway, we eventually made our way to the ticket booth and got tickets for The Producers for a total of 240USD for four. Not bad I guess considering the price was 50% off what it is suppose to be. With a few hours to kill, we headed to Chinatown for the usual rhyme and reason: food.

Since it was so gosh darn hot out we went to “that fruit place”, which is now called “Whatever”, to cool off and start off with some dessert action. Birdie ended up ordering the small All Mixed Fresh Friut on Plate plus a Strawberry Juice with Milk (basically a smoothie of sorts). James got the Mango and Cocunt Milk with Sago plus the Mango Pudding with Mixed Fresh Fruit. Matt just got the Sago with Strawberry Juice. Myself, got the Sago with Strawberry Juice and the Mango & Coconu Milk with Sago. The prices were a little high, considering how insanely cheap it is in Hong Kong but man oh man, it is so worth it! All I can say is if you’re ever in Chinatown go to “Whatever” located at 150 Centre Street. It’s like three blocks from the Canal subway exit and worth every penny!

Dessert being done with we headed to Little Italy to get a lite dinner. And boy, was that a mistake! The restuarant we choose was based on one of two suggestions Matt made: 1. How packed the place is; if it is crowded odds are the place is good 2. How hot the hostress is. Surprisingly enough we went with the former suggestion. If I remember correctly, the place was called “La Meda” which meant “apple” in Italian based on James and Birdie whom took a semester of the language. So many things wrong with this place but the biggest ones were the fact we each had to order something on the menu plus our waiter went “No you don’t want that” or something along those lines when Matt asked about the soup. Even worse was us believing their chicken was “The best in NY” as quoted from their menu; it was basically fried chicken that kind of sucked. The lesson learnt from this experience? Never trust what the menu says without some legit creds and always eat in Chinatown if you want to be safe. We could have had a lot more food for the price we paid and actually know what we were ordering. :aorz:

After that horrible experience, I wanted some more dessert so we headed to the Mayalsian restuarant that’s in the tunnel off of Elizabeth street (right across from Elizabeth Center). Just picked up the usual thanks to Wai whom introduced the dessert to me, which was Singaporean Ice. For those that do not know what I’m talking about it’s kind of hard to describe but it’s basically seven different ingredients in one flavored slurpee-ish form. The most surprising being corn. Yes, corn is in the dessert. One would think it would taste weird but the corn actually adds that extra kick to the flavored ice treat. Plus you can’t beat the price: 2.50USD!

With the time for the show almost upon us, we made our way to St. James Therate where the show was being preformed. This being my first Broadway show I had no clue what to except but thanks to good seating, an excellent cast and story, I must say I enjoyed the experience.***

We left the therate around 11PM EST and with little else to do, debated either to head to K-Town for drinks or head back home. Somehow we compromised on the two as a nearby pizza store, which was rather good, fixed our need to get drinks and also scored us a free ride back with Matt deciding to go home too. Why the free ride? Of course, Matt being the big dawg used his company’s limo services to get back; saving us time and money. Gotta love working in big companies huh?

Really nothing else exciting happened that night since I just drove everyone home as it was getting rather late for us “old people.” Unfortunately I ended up opening my big mouth again and suggested we do something tomorrow since Matt was back… I got to learn to shut up if I want to bum my weekends in freedom!

Not as exciting as the day before, the four of us ended up watching Miami Vice. The movie wasn’t bad as it had some good action scenes but that was about it. Plotholes and all the unnecessary sex really killed any other positives for the movie, at least for me. I still want to know why Li Gong was even in the movie! She had no place being there in my opinion and what character development her character might have had went down the crapper as she ended up just being Colin Farrell’s character’s love interest. Boring!

Actually there was one thing we did before the movie that’s somewhat worth mentioning, which was to grab a bite at Burger King. I ended up eating their new BK Quad-Stacker Burger, which let me tell you, is a heart attack waiting to happen. The BK Quad-Stacker is basically four cheeseburgers plus bacon and BK stacker sauce all in one bun. Wasn’t bad for the first few bites but finishing it off plus a second half was hell in itself. I definitely felt a few years off my life there!

So eating life reducing food and watching a crappy movie thus ended my fun filled weekend where I was actually social for awhile. Aside from the previous weekend, really haven’t done much otherwise. Just the same old routine as usual though at least now I’ll be making a little more money thanks to a slight pay raise! More unnecessary spending in the coming future! Oh yea!

Oh yes, if one hasn’t noticed, I changed the blog layout again. I just had to use the Yuki pic one day and I figured now is as good as a time as ever. The new layout came out pretty decent, in my humble opinion. After changing the default color layout to match the image however, I noticed the blog looks strangely similar to Hot Step Jump! Oops. I hope Jeff doesn’t mind ;)

* For better or worse, my best friend Matt makes the outings a bit more entertaining than normal. More so when the other guys are around as the gay-ness and humor factors go up like crazy. Or down mattering your perspective.

** Special thanks to Matthew for having the original orz gif on his blog and AB.net forums. I did some quick changes to WP that now allows me to insert the orz gif like any other smilies. Otakuness at its best… :aorz:

*** Ironically the shortest mention in the entry though the main reason I ended up going to NYC. Sorry, it should be longer but I’m horrible at summarizing and describing anything. Really makes me wonder why anyone even reads my various blogs!

Pffft, we get those temperatures 365.25 days a year.

Anyway, Singaporean Ice is a funny name for Ice Kachang.

DM, that’s fine for you but for me I can only handle so much. Also doesn’t help I’m getting fatter so the extra layers just make things worse.

Anyway, thanks for the info about Ice Kachang! Always learning something new everyday!

Dude, you don’t go to Little Italy to eat unless you know someone who know wth he/she is ordering. Those restuarants down there will suck you dry. ~~
