More of my money goes bye-bye as I start to question my “buy first, worry about paying later” methodology.
Onegai Twins Complete Collection, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu v5 LE, Wii, Zelda: Twilight Princess, Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Alter’s Saber Swimsuit, and Kotobukiya’s Kosaka Tamaki Frilled Bikini.
I was thinking of parodying Danny Choo’s PS3 Review with the Wii and Saber figurine but got too lazy to bother. Plus my camera skills are rather lacking so I doubt it would have turned out well anyways.
Swimsuit Saber is a pretty good figure although the base could use some work. I don’t know about others, but I cannot stand the figurine in the three associated pegs without potentially breaking the whole thing! Sure it can stand by itself but I usually like using the included base for convenience; the best I could do is get the figurine sort of in the pegs though it may fall at any second.
The two included accessories, the penguin ice maker and chibi Saber are nicely done. For the ice maker, you can actually turn the handle (no shaved ice will come out though). The chibi Saber is just done right plus any TYPE MOON character done in chibi mode always rocks.
The three blue ribbons on the figurine go over pretty well and help to bring some color in. Also the amount of ribbons used look just right to me as I feel any more or less would have distracted to the overall quality of the figurine. Probably just me though.
Also liking how Saber’s toes and fingers are nicely painted where they could have opted to leave it plain. I forgot to mention, the two accessories are interchangeable though the penguin ice maker is probably the better of the two as it is more “in-game” than the random chibi Saber figurine. Overall, as I’ve already mentioned, I am rather pleased with this Saber figurine and am happy to make it the third one in my collection thus far. Between this one, plus Clayz’s Saber and Alter’s Black Saber I think I’ve amassed a decent set of Saber PVCs; I already have the fourth pre-ordered with it being Clayz’s Bar Maid Saber due out next month.
Yes, I curse TYPE MOON every time I realize how much money I’ve sunk into their series. Saber alone as killed my wallet more than I would have liked. 
Next up is the ever sexy Tamaki from To Heart 2. The first PVC I actually liked enough to order out of the three or four already out. Overall not too bad but pricey when I think about how swimsuit Saber was a bit cheaper and larger.
Anyway, the overall pose is pretty hot. Also helps Tamaki has a nice set of “eyes” to heighten the general awesomeness of said pose. Happy to see the somewhat off-aligned breasts that looked to be an issue in all the pre-release photos was either fixed or just an illusion due to bad depth perception. Nothing worse than off-set breasts right?
Loving the color set chosen for the figurine as good old black and white can never go wrong, especially with Tamaki’s rather dark red hair. The bikini design is nothing too special but definitely more detailed compared to Saber’s due to the extra white outlines and flower print on the left breast.
One weakness, though a general one for any anime related PVC, is the detail to the hair. Unless one is willing to pay through the roof for a finely detailed figurine with kick arse hair details, one will have to deal with some thick hair lines. Normally not that big of a deal but kind of a downer especially for characters whose hair style help to make them look all the better. Thankfully Tamaki’s unique twintail/cat-earish hair style pulled through well and there is enough details, at least for me, to keep me happy.
The base itself is pretty stable as it is just a flat plate. I’ll talk more about it in the next shot but simply to say, it’s nothing special.
Okay, as you can probably notice this sandy base is not the mirror one previously used. This is because this is the actual base but I had popped and reversed it before hand. Reason? It’s hard to tell in the photos but the actual sandy beach look for the base looks horrible. Looks more like sand paper to me than anything else, although I will admit once the figurine is laid on top of it, it isn’t as bad as I make it out to be.
Here is the actual surface of the base. Yes, it looks like sand but just doesn’t do it for me. I would have rather had a simple straight black plastic base than this thing that’s trying to pass as sand.
The reverse side I realized you could pop out. Yes, it is scratched up like a bitch but still looks ten times better IMHO than the actual base side. Plus unless I have direct or high light pointed at the base, you don’t really notice all the marks on the mirror side.
Damn, I think all my time looking at Japanese blogs and figurines has corrupted me to use a mirror base when available. Stupid Japanese and their wanting to see all the bits including up the figurine’s skirt/whatever. In my defense, at least in this case, it was the lesser of two evils. 
Onegai Twins Complete Collection thanks to one of TRSI’s studio sales. Maybe because of who the seiyuus are or how lite it is compared to Onegai Teacher, I always thoroughly enjoy this series when re-watching. Probably has to do how the main male protagonist isn’t your standard wimp and knows himself and his limitations. That or how he easily gets the two female protagonists to fall for him without really trying.
Disc 1 and 2. Playing them on my projector I do notice it is not as sharp compared to more recent DVDs. For awhile, I thought I had my projector setup wrong or it was broken (again), but checking it against the recent Haruhi DVD reassured me it was just due to how Onegai Twins was pressed to DVD. Not like this is a big deal as you get used to it but I thought it was worth noting.
Disc 3 and 4. Probably won’t get to these until next weekend since I have little free time during the weekdays. Sucks too as the later half of the series is when everything gets into high gear and really good.
Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu v5 LE with no SP sticker this time either. Volume five encompasses the Lone Island Syndrome chapter of the series. Overall I didn’t notice any additional footage in the first arc/episode, but did see a few in the second arc/episode. Noticeably towards the end, when Haruhi was spilling the beans of the “murder case” as Kyoto Animation went to the nth degree and made the scene more like Phoenix Wright than ever! I almost fell off my bed laughing as I saw how Kyoto Animation went over the top with it. Good to know they have a sense of humor about that kind of stuff 
The extra this time around had a limited press/fan session for the first DVD release, I think. Aya Hirano and Minori Chihara were present to be part of the festivities but an additional surprise, at least for me, were the original creator Nagaru Tanigawa and character designer Noizi Ito also being there! The extra clocked in to about 10 minutes long where basically they were just chit-chatting before the actual event, practicing their signatures and trading signed stuff with one another (well mostly Noizi Ito and Nagaru Tanigawa signing stuff for the seiyuus). The actual event I’m not too positive what happened as it was cut out but they did show the seiyuus handing out stuff to the fans as they waited in line to get signed autographs from Noizi Ito and Nagaru Tanigawa.
The only question I had while watching was where was Yuuko Goto? Kind of weird they couldn’t get the third main female lead too. I guess she probably had other things scheduled. Oh well. Overall volume five’s extra wasn’t too bad as I finally got to put faces to some names, getting to see what Noizi Ito and Nagaru Tanigawa look like. With only two more volumes left, I wonder what extras there will be. I really hope one of them will be a cast interview or something that involves the male members of the series. I know I’ve mentioned it in the past, but just as much as I love seeing the female cast I would also like to hear/see what the guys think of the series. And before I forget, next volume includes the fan favorite Live a Lie episode that is easily my top three favorite episodes out of the series
For those curious of my non-anime spending, no I did not do Black Friday this year. Sales seemed (and were) weak this year plus there was nothing I was interested in getting beside new clothes, which I can do anytime. I did, however, spend some cash on getting the rest of the video/audio cables I need to finally finish hooking up the various crap to my HTS and projector. If you ever need to get cheap good quality cables, I highly recommend monoprice.com as their prices are dirt cheap plus shipping is good if you’re in the US. Picked up a 25ft digital coaxial audio cable for like $6USD where they’re normally going for $100USD+ at local stores. Of course, the local stores are selling brand name cables but it honestly doesn’t make that much of a difference to spend so much money on.
Damn it. The more I type about this, the more I realize this month is killing me in finances. I think I’ve dropped over $2000USD for normal monthly anime purchases, the projector, home theater system (and needed cables), the Wii (and its accessories and games), and whatever random crap that may have come up. December isn’t looking good either as I’ll need to buy gifts for the family for the holidays plus my usual (over the limit) anime spending is leaving me more broke than I should be. Starting next year, I honestly need to cut down on my spending, especially anime, if I plan to have any money saved for the future. Can’t keep mooching off my parents for forever.

Well you are in your mid twenties thus you probabaly have some leeway with your folks, but budgeting is something we all have to get use to eventually. I found some darn good deals on Black Friday to build my new computer. I also planned on spending more this year hence I grabbed a summer solicitation to earn a good deal of money so this holiday won’t hurt as much. I find that it is a good idea to build a war chest every summer since it is my experience that there are less expenses as a student.
You could surrender part of your paycheck to your folks that’s what my parents made me do to encourage me to increase savings to though I already tended to hoard money during my younger days.

For the projector, matters what you’re looking for you. I know my IN72 got cheaper like a week after I bought it, and minus my initial flicker problem, it has been great. I did read there may be a issue of 1AMP/2AMP, but if you’re buying it new you should be getting the 2AMP one. Also important is the warranty. You want at least a year, more if you’re willing to pay; you never know when it’ll come in handy (probably one of the few times I’ll say warranty is worth while). As for the IN76, I’ve been hearing great things about it and I doubt you could go wrong with either.
When my projector had the flicker issue, I headed to the great AVS forums some help. I think if you spend some time looking through the 100+ page topic, you’ll find the opinions you are looking for.

sorry to keep bugging you but, may i ask you some non-technical questions based on your personal experience with the IN72?
first off, i don’t have much wall real estate, prob can’t go bigger than a 76″ screen. may i ask how big a screen you use and how far away you sit?
i’m wary of ceiling mounting my PJ, was simply gonna let it sit on my desk. in terms of overheating etc, is that cool? i seem to remember you left your PJ on top of a bookcase or something
as this is my first PJ, there is a lot of technical terms like adjustment angles, throw etc. how simple is it to set up? i simply want to attach the screen to the wall, plug in my XBOX 360 and play. is this possible or are there complex calibration, adjustments etc?

Zanza, the free screen I got is 76″ and tis what I use without any problems. I sit basically 10-12′ back from the screen, more or less where my projector is.
Same with me about PJ ceiling mounting. You can do it if you want to but I think it’ll be a pain if you need to get it repaired or anything. I have mine sitting on a cabinet/shelf thingie by itself without any issues. The PJ does get hot but as long as you don’t block the air panels (one side takes air in while the other releases it), you should be fine.
If you just want to get gaming/watching ASAP, it’s pretty straight forward. InFocus’ IN72+ lines are pretty well calibrated out of the box, so you should be good to go.
For my IN72, it only does video and not audio. And yes, I basically have wires running the audio to my sound system in the front. It’s not that bad really but it’ll really suck if someone trips on the wires ^^;;
And since you mentioned your XBOX360, I think you’ll want to get the IN76 as it’ll handle 1080p plus as a better native resolution than my IN72. Bottom line: if you’re just gonna watch DVDs and videos, go IN72. If you’re going to game with the next gen console, go IN76 to get the fullest enjoyment. Of course, at the end, price matters as well.

i’ll def look into this model, the IN76 sounds great but i don’t really have that many zeros to spend at the moment. that said, was the screen easy to set up? i’m like the worst handyman in the world XD
p.s. I don’t remember seeing audible noise levels for the IN72. some peeps on AVS noted InFocus has problems with noisy PJ’s? how do you find yours, distracting when watching anime/movies or ?
Screen is pretty easy to mount to the ceiling, then again I had my dad help a bit. But yea, I got literally just the screen. No stand or mounts or anything.
Nose level of the PJ is like nothing and does not distract at all from watching anime/movies.
