Basically in most countries there likely is a national dish that resemble this “croq-whatever”, despite the Wiki saying Dutch made it, its as basic as you can get.

Croquettes are best when fresh, and during winter. There was a store right outside a temple in Kyoto when I went, so awesome.

i’ve had croquettes every time i’ve seen them available. they’re probably my favorite “food i’ve tried because of anime”. then again, i’m a big fan of potatoes.
