Freeing Yuki and Movic Subaru

The spending never stops on the Moyism Train to Poverty(TM)!
Quick reviews of recently released FREEing’s Nagato Yuki and Movic’s Subaru Nakajima to top off the end of the year after the jump.
Just when I thought FREEing’s Tsuruya-san box was huge, they go and up the size with their release of Nagato Yuki! With the way FREEing is releasing their Haruhi 1/4 bunny girl line of figures, I swear they’re also giving collectors emergency blunt objects to have in case of robbery or zombie apocalypse. Sure it is an $100+ blunt object, but still an usable defensive object if necessary!
I was a little skeptical on FREEing’s Yuki as promo and actual photos I saw of the figure looked like she had a long neck making everything dis-proportional. Luckily my worries were unfounded as Yuki looks great and everything looks as proportional as can be. I will note, however, that it seems Yuki leans a little bit to the right which while I do not think will be a problem, may be cause for some as a potential leaner down the line.
Beside the potential leaning issue, really can’t find anything wrong with the figure given the other two FREEing figures I own. As is the norm, the fishnet stockings are real which is always a nice touch with Yuki in a classic Yuki-ish pose of aloofness. For any other character, it probably wouldn’t work but with Yuki the pose fits her to a T.
Also, one may want to note that she’s currently the tallest of the five Haruhi bunny girls released thus far; not sure of the exact measurements (because I’m too lazy to look) but Yuki is a good head taller than the already big Tsuruya-san. If anything, that’s great for Yuki fans as FREEing’s version will probably be the biggest scale we’ll ever see of her… or any character in general, actually ^^;;
Yuki with Haruhi and Tsuruya-san, thus completing the three FREEing figures I wanted to get when the line was initially announced many moons ago.
Just for scale perspective, the FREEing and Max Factory (and Alter) Haruhi figures. FREEing’s Yuki is like double the size of Max Factory’s while both Haruhis are roughly the same with FREEing’s Tsuruya-san almost being double the size of Alter’s. Just goes to show how frickin’ big FREEing’s 1/4 Haruhi bunny girl line are!
Moving on, Movic’s Subaru Nakajima from Nanoha StrikerS. In my opinion, probably the best of the 3-5 released figures from Movic from the series.
The box is kind of cool with it being all transparent though I’m not feeling the font at all.
Bible Black Random magic circle on the back of the box.
Subaru in all her glory. It’s a pretty simple pose straight from one of the official images from the series but I think it encompasses her character to a T. Plus you gotta love a girl who can show off her flat stomach like it’s nothing you know
The back, nothing too special but at least there’s no gapping problems from what I can see.
Overall this figure will not win any awards other than the negative kind, which I’ll get into shortly, but being one of the first PVC releases for Nanoha StrikerS and of Subaru, it is not horrible in any way. I don’t want to say it’s a solid release due to that one “WTF?!” issue but for fans of Subaru (crap are there any?) and of the series (crap again, are there any?!), Movic’s Subaru Nakajima would make an okay addition to their collection.
Now for that one major issue that really makes you wonder what Movic was thinking here. Yes, Subaru skirt is removable which is fine and pretty much the norm. What is really strange is Movic’s half ass-ed attempt underneath the skirt, with Subaru showing half her panties and jean shorts. It’ll be one thing if it one or the other, but to have half of each? That’s just plain f*cked up; it’s as if they couldn’t decide if they wanted to give Subaru fanservice by showing panties or just to play it safe and fully do her jean shorts instead.
What we get instead is a Subaru looking really weird if one decides to take off her skirt. I mean, come on, if anything they could have at least made the jean shorts removable as well right? Honestly have no clue what Movic is thinking as their Sekirei line has been looking great (see Movic Tsukiumi) in terms of castoff-able and fanservice, so there should be no reason for this half cocked attempt at fanservice or whatever they were trying to go for.
The finisher photo of Subaru’s mostly panties covered behind ^^;;
For a more balance and thorough review of Subaru, I highly recommend checking out deftoned’s. He hits all the major points I’m too lazy to talk about plus has some of Movic’s other Nanoha figures to compare Subaru to. (I feel sorry he bought Movic’s Fate. As a Fate-chan fanboy, that thing is just so fugly it honestly makes me cry everytime I see it is.)

woah that yuki is really huge..
Happy New Year !!
LoL! I just wonder why you tend to buy things and regret later or rather know that you’ll regret but get it anyway. T-T
ron~, yea she’s pretty big. And Happy New Year to you too!
bj0rn, meh. Buyer’s remorse maybe? I tend to try to not think about else I start to cry over all the money spent through the years ^^;;
I keep telling myself that that Fate figure is alright looking, but it’s face is a complete mess. The rest of the figure is fine (except the flimsy base), but that face is Fugly with a capital F. I’ve seriously considered sticking it back in it’s box. =__= For space reasons, it’s on the same shelf as GSC’s Manabi, Alicia, and Fate, and MF’s Shana, Fauna, and Kotori… So it’s very much out of place! The promo shots of Movic’s Teana figure actually look good compared to the last 3 figures, but my expectations aren’t too high.
I almost never get figures from any manufacturers other than the holy trinity, so I pretty much never get crappy figures. I still await the day that Alter makes a Riot Zanber version of Fate. That would be totally awesome :3
And I’m a pseudo-fan of StrikerS, if that counts.
