Why Gintama is Awesome

I rarely talk about the anime I watch nowadays beside what DVD I may have bought, but when I do you know it has to be (probably) something worth watching. With that being said, I still cannot believe how entertaining Gintama is after 80+ episodes where as most other series of similar length would be in filler land by now. This previous week’s episode, episode 88, easily exemplifies what makes Gintama so great with the inclusion of the male Tower of Babel, rock-rapping, group dating, goth-lolita clothing, and more!

Update: Sorry, yet another blog entry that will never be completed due to laziness!

Moving On

So I quit my old job at Setup Site after working for them for two years. I won’t go into the details of why I decided to quit now, but do know I’ve already been hired at another company thanks to a referral from a friend working there. I won’t be doing much web related technical support anymore as it’ll be more anything-goes in the field as IT support; basically I’ll have to be quick on my feet and learn new stuff everyday to fix whatever issue(s) I’ll be dealing with. Pay is roughly the same as before but the possibilities for promotions and various other benefits easily makes this new job a lot more worthwhile than what I had before. Really the only negatives I can currently see is getting up early and driving around the state to handle calls, but odds are I’ll get used to those soon enough.

On getting the job, I was nervous yet at the same type felt aloft about the whole thing. My interview experiences are pretty limited so I did not know what to expect coming in, but after everything was said and done, I was offered the job on the spot. From what I found out from the boss, they weren’t initially going to hire until February or March but after my friend brought in my resume and his recommendations, decided to give me a shot. Not that I’m complaining mind you, but I swear every time I get a job it’s never “normal” in my opinion ^^;;

This time around I won’t say what company I’m working for but once again, it seems to be small. At least unlike my previous employment, this company is actually growing and things can only get bigger and better both for the company and its employees. I’m pretty excited yet nervous as I start on Monday but honestly, it’ll be a refreshing change from the past couple of months working at home. Plus, even though I’m not exactly the most social person out there, it’ll be nice to interact in person with human beings again after two years of just dealing with them over the phone! Tis good as I’ll be able to put faces to names and the like, plus I can finally get out of my hikikomori way of life of recent.

With the new job, however, there will be one major change that may affect some of you out there: I’m “quitting” the anime raw scene. I put quitting in quotes due to the fact I may be able to raw stuff on the weekends but due to my laziness and seeing how other groups do it faster than me, will most likely not bother. Unlike my previous job where I was in one location, the new one will have me going all over the place so I won’t have any time to even try to look for the raws for the day. Not like me quitting the raw’ing game is going to be that big of a deal, since now a days there are way too many raw groups out. The sad thing is 70% of them all get raws from the same places, Share and WinNY! I could write some more about this subject but I think I’ll just be trailing on the topic which I could write a separate small post about some other time, so I’ll stop here.

Being a raw provider was a fun ride and I’m glad to know there were a few that benefited from the “hard” work I put in since I started about a year ago. To those that downloaded from me, thanks for taking the time to do so and making it worth doing!

Blogging Tricks Revealed

Just thought I would post some random musings on improving my anime blogging readership.

1. If your blog is on Otaku.fm, please do remember to use a full address for your title image the site pulls. Even though I’ve been on it for a few weeks, I only realized yesterday why some of my title images were never showing up. See normally I type and code all my entries, including the HTML code. So when I when give the link to images, usually I do “/blog/images/file.jpg” to save time from typing my domain’s full address. And well, while it works fine for loading images from the blog, apparently Otaku.fm does not pull the image as you can see in my site listings. After looking at which posts were showing correctly, I finally figured the ones with a full image address, i.e. “http://moyism.com/blog/images/file.jpg”, were loading fine! Looking at other blogs on Otaku.fm, a majority of them do not seem to have this issue but it’s good food for thought for those that didn’t know like myself!

2. One post can (un)fortunately get your blog at the top of a google search. Thanks to this post, I’m currently number 2 when you search for “lolicon blog” on google. I honestly don’t know whether to be happy or sad about that :aorz:

3. Omni is the man for helping increase your readership… even if your blog does suck!

4. Blogging daily, believe it or not, does help to keep the readership constant and fresh ;)

5. People love the women of Moyashimon as they rightfully should.

… sorry, I think after #2 this post lost all purpose, but I needed other examples to fill this up!

Momotato! Come Back!

Inspired by the always interesting Omo, I’m doing my duty as a fellow anime blogger and reader of Momotato Daioh to try to (hopelessly) get him back to the world of anime blogging. Probably too “old” for the “young’ins” but man, Momotato was easily one of the top tier anime blogger back in the day.

He’s so good I still have yet to see anyone match or mimic his style of blogging which, if I remember correctly, involved 2-4 screenshots and 1-3 sentences perfectly (and often hilariously) summarizing the given episode in question. Like I wrote in Omo’s comment section, Momotato was one of the few blogs back in the day (3-4 years ago) that I would consistently check to meet my daily requirement of anime blogging goodness. I know I definitely would have missed some great series if it wasn’t for his unique style of blogging and one of a kind insights into anime.

So yea… MOMOTATO-SENPAI! COME BACK!

Cleaning House - 2007 Final Expenses

Following along with fellow blogging brethren Stripey and Adun, it only seems right that the “Overlord of anime expenditure, Grandmaster Moy” put in his two cents on 2007 expenses and other financial expectations for the new year.

Don’t expect anything all inspiring like the other two but do look at it as an example of how not to live and spend ;)
