HOLY MOTHER OF GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!?

I just did something REALLY financially stupid. I mean as in OMG-I-just-topped-myself-yet-again type of financially stupid. Oh, it will be very sweet when it comes but just thinking about the bill is already freaking me out thus this post.
Jesus frickin’ Christ (sorry for those religious) I can’t believe I pullled the trigger on it. More information later.
In other news, just got an Oppo DV-981 DVD player. Pretty sweet as it does 1080p nicely plus is very easy to make region free. Ran a few quick tests and I can definitely see an improvement over my old samsung 1080i DVD player. Was nice re-watching Nana Mizuki’s LIVE FORMULA DVD in slightly better quality

Hope the DV-981 works better than the previous model. The upconversion was awesome, but it had a ton of problems playing Bandai releases for some reason. Switched over to PS3 a year ago which does a decent upconversion job as well.
I think all your readers are religious. They’re all members of the church of Moyism
Get a refund if possible? >_>
I don’t know what you’re talking about! LOL
If you’re disappointed with your purchase, send it to me.
Wasn’t there supposed to be a tax cut check for you in the mail?
Any ways, your evasion of crushing debt has lasted you this far why worry?
My DV-981 has problems with Bandai discs as well (it also hiccups on a few other discs by Geneon [i.e. Ergo Proxy Vol. 1]), as kiryuu mentioned. For me, in particular, it has HUGE problems with the Gundam Seed R1 discs. On discs two and three of the first collection, the player would completely skip chapters – both in regular playback and in the chapter selection screen. Also, the “pointer” in the DVD menu would completely disappear. The animation and sound in the menu would play as usual, but you couldn’t do anything, short of stopping it and starting it up again to get the pointer back.
For the Geneon discs, the player will sometimes either freeze when navigating the DVD menu or the pointer would disapper also.
The player also has problems with some R3′s (i.e. the Aria series), in that the player can’t access some of the menu items (chapter selection for example). Also, the player will sometimes crash in the DVD menu also.
I mainly bought the player to play my R2s, so the Gundam Seed problem doesn’t bother me as much since I play those on my standalone Blu-Ray player.
I can’t replicate the problem at all using regular R1 non-anime DVDs, so it’s definitely a disagreement with the discs and not a defect of the player.
The player does an outstanding upconverting job, but it is picky when it comes to the authoring job that was done to a DVD.
Something tells me you bought a bigger TV or something to compliment that DV-981….
A 60 inch TV, I’m betting.
That’s something I’ve been meaning to do is get an OPPO, but I’m a walk in the store kind of guy. If Best Buy ever got these I’d probably have one already.
WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! MAKE ME MORE SHIRTS! BUT WITH THE LOGO ON BOTH SIDES!
kiryuu, no issues so far but then again I haven’t done thorough testing yet. I did pop in Haruhi which was released by Bandai and saw no issues. Obviously I watched the band episode
Hung, I keep forgetting about the Church of Moyism. What kind of holy leader am I to do such things?!
IcyStorm, refund… right. Already got a discount on it so…
blissmo, new commenter? Well if you’ve been lurking my blog for a bit, I have this *slight* problem of randomly spending A LOT more than my income allows. This would be one of those times.
Link, hahaha I didn’t even get it yet. And even if I did, I doubt I would give away something like that randomly.
Crusader, yea actually just got it last week which sorta helped in me deciding on this. But yea, true about not freaking out; just that the cost this time around is a bit higher than my normal bouts of “high-end” spending so…
Lunatic_Sae, thanks for the food for thought which I’ll keep in mind as I test the player more this weekend.
Zeroblade, I neither deny nor admit your guess
super rats, ah gotcha. I use to be like that but nowadays with electronics unless I need it *now* I usually end up ordering online. Just saves on hassle plus hauling back home.
Os, LMAO I still have one spare left I could never give away. For this year’s Otakon, doubt I’m going to do anything like that again.
Good thing I’m not religous. I don’t have one…
I think sometimes before I buy…
Other times, I just buy on impluse and regret it later after looking at the bill…
Oh boy and here I was thinking you bought yourself a Candy Girl or something, lol.
Pretty sweet player you got yourself. I understand how it feels though, I feel the same when I first bought my PS3. But if no loan shark is knocking on your doors right now, why freak?
Relax and enjoy the greater visual quality, man!
