I Passed the Exam

Through grueling cramming and my job literally on the line, I passed a Microsoft Certification exam today with a score of 968/1000 to become a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP)!
In the short term this doesn’t really mean much other than I get to keep my job and have something else to finally add to my resume. In the long term, however, it can lead to bigger and better things as the current company I’m at pays for our exams and with enough exams I can most likely get a pay grade as well.
… it’s a whole other story if I want to do this right away or wait a bit. Odds are I’ll wait a few months until I get my feet more grounded into the job and pick up a bit more experience because as much “fun” as it is cramming for exams, it’ll be easier once I have some real life experience on the stuff I’m testing for.
Oh, for anyone interested I passed the easiest of all the Microsoft Certification exams, 70-270 aka the Windows XP exam. I have to admit, while studying I learned a shit load of stuff I never knew was possible in Windows XP. Definitely nothing worthwhile for the average home user but a lot of goodies for administrators or tech-geeks like myself. For example, although this is something I picked up years ago, Windows XP Pro allows for one hosted website under IIS (basically the program that handles servicing webpages… think like apache); great if you’re a Windows Web Dev and need to test your application before going live and accidentally breaking something ![]()

Congrats on getting certified. But I thought you would’ve gone for something a bit more intense than WindowsXP. I myself am going for a certification in Adobe ColdFusion in a few months as my boss wants me certified. It’ll definitely look good on the resume and I’m sure I’ll learn some of other that I don’t already know.

Congrates on passing…
Exams scare me. When I go to an exam, I freeze up and forget everything I studied for the past 2 weeks…

Don’t go CCNA… that was so sinfully boring for me, except the subnetting and wildcard masks and Access control lists but the rest D:

Congratulations!!!!
grats. I passed the CCNA a few months ago right before they changed it to the new exam. My co-worker had to retake the new version but he managed to pass it ^^
which certifications you go for all depend on what direction you want to move your career in. personally I’m eyeballing the various SuSE certifications that Novell has going since that is my main line of work currently.

Congrats! So I assume you’re a software engineer?
Interesting though, I didn’t know the IT field is so test intensive. The above discussion sounds as if collecting certifications can almost qualify as a favorite pastime.

Post more about what you learned in that course. Let’s see what the pros learn.

Congratz! and thanks for the awesome post!
Congrats - now you can buy more consumer products
Well, If you finish the 270 exam then you have one of the smaller Windows XP exams…
There is also 271 and 272. Those are for the real Windows XP. Those 2 exams go deeper into the stuff… If you get the 271 and 272 then you are a MCDST (Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Tech….)
If you go for a MCSA (Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator) then you will need to complete at least 2 more exams. (70-290 and 70-291)
Those 2 will learn you how you can administrate/controll a Windows Server 2003.
After that you can also go for MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer)
P.S. Good job on passing the exams
(This line seems to be dropped outside of the comment area :P)
