New PC, New Levels of Poverty
Well my main PC died on me yesterday for no good cause after taking out one of the hard drives and moving it to my new file server. After putting everything back, all it would do is power on and that’s about it. And since it was semi-old, figured it was time I upgraded to something a bit more speedy which eventually lead me to spend $700USD on new parts. To celebrate this continual spending of money, Kyou from Clannad now decorates my desktop
On the new PC, basically only kept one hard drive, DVDR/CDRW burner, and my case from the old system. Everything else was bought new which included a 600W power supply, 500GIG SATA drive, ATI Radeon HD 4670 1GIG video card, 4GIGs of RAM, MSI K9A2 CF-F ATX motherboard, and AMD Phenom 9550 Quad-core 2.2Ghz CPU. And I must say, I’m pretty blown away by the differences from my old setup to this; finally can play 1080P videos like nothing plus do other work without the thing dying! Everything just runs faster period. I really happy with the new setup although there are a few things I still need to iron out; nothing major but hopefully once done everything will be flowin’.
For those interested, my Vista bench scores were 5.7 only because the 3D on my graphic card isn’t top of the line. Not bad though considering 5.9 is like the highest you can get ^^;;
… now only if I can get my file server 100%. Been having issues with the Windows Server 2008 where my mapped shares from to it randomly dies. Most likely pinpointed it to some configuration settings I needed to edit which I think I’ve gotten figured out but we’ll see. It’s going to suck if I can’t get this worked out as the whole point of the server was to be a file server where I would store all my stuff, thus not having to worry about saving stuff on my main PC instead!

Kyou is always a good choice for a wallpaper. I´m using that image as my cellphone background
And another Kyou for my laptop.
But to the PC: I´m not a big fan of AMD, but hey it looks good when I take a peak at the specs. When I got myself a new one this summer I took my harddrives from the old computer and then I basically bought everything else new.
So for my Vista bench scores everything is 5.9 except for the RAM, it´s only 5.4 but I´m pleased.
To bad you´re having problem with the file server though
Hopefully it´ll work out really good.

Nice Kyou. That’s sad for your old PC and your file server :(. My Vista bench scores is only 3.1 :p

Dear Moyism,
I would love your foobar design for Christmas. It’s awesome.

Damn, I’ve been wanting a setup like that for months now! I even compromised from 9950BE to 9550…. but I still can’t get the money.

If I may ask, why AMD? Why not Intel?
I’m an AMD fan myself, but a person with as much money to blow as you should be going on something with more performance per clock.

manga, Kyou is always good in my books! Also like to root for the underdog, so I’ve been with AMD the past few years. Never had any issues with them so far. And thanks, me thinks I got my file server worked out… although I did end up re-building my main PC again due to video driver issues and going 64bit for kicks and giggles ^^;;
kyouray, 3.1? I think that was my old PC score as well…
Jetsk1, it doesn’t work with the newer versions of foobar so you’ll need something like version 9.5.x and look for the Panel UI theme called elegance. You should be good from there.
ritchan, even I have limits as I only budgeted about 500-1000 in spending. Thankfully my friends kept it towards the lower hundreds ^^;; And as I said to manga, been with AMD for years without much if any issues so yea.
