Otaku Room - WTF

I don’t know whether to be proud or ashamed of myself, but it’s been a few months since the last otaku room post and I figured it was high time for an update. And what better way to start the update than to show a photo of my room in its current state as if I was robbed…

… and if I was robbed, it would have looked like they took my DVDs, couch, bed…

… my figures and clothes…

… and most importantly of all, my PC and monitor as well…

… somehow moving it all to my new location…

… setting up a proper entertainment center and work area…

… while even decorating the area with my figures and stocking up the place with drinks to boot!

Okay, if you couldn’t tell from my uber cheesy lines above, I’m slowly moving from my old room to a new one in the house. I know it sounds really sad as I would be thinking the same if I reading this on another blog, but I’ve moved down to my parent’s basement which boost 2x the room space and 3x the coolness (i.e. temperature) than my old room. Right now I only have the bare minimum moved due to half the basement still needing to be cleaned and the misc stuff moved elsewhere (most likely my old room); thus the current mess I photographed above.

I’m still thinking how I’m going to display/shelf all the figures but current options either see me moving the old black shelves from the old room down to the basement or picking up a one of those Ikea shelves (the name escapes me) that are popular with other figure collectors. Sadly even though I’ve moved like 1/2 my collection already, there’s still a good 50+ figures to move and find a place to store them ;_;

On the setup so far, it hasn’t been too bad. Now that my eyes have readjusted, it’s kind of nice looking at a “normal” sized screen again after 2 years of 30+” sized monitors. Plus it’s great having that extra 1120 pixels for height (and makes it slightly easier finding the right sized wallpapers) as well. Otherwise watching anime/dvds/whatever on the plasma is the same as before (yep can still watch anime from the PC to the plasma thanks to dual video output) but doesn’t feel as messily setup since I now have a semi-proper home theater/system setup. The only things left to complete my move and bachelor’s pad (LOL) are to move out the rest of the crap that was stored in the basement, move the rest of my stuff from the old room (i.e. clothes, figures, DVDs), and pick up a few pieces of furniture to make it feel more “lived in” (probably a small leather couch, a coffee table, and some shelves).

Ideally, I should be done by the end of this weekend :D

To finish things off, my latest DVD purchases. Minorin’s Contact Live Tour 2008 and Nana-chan’s NANA CLIPS 4.

On Minorin’s DVD, my comment I made on a few message boards still stands: “Got my copy of Minorin’s 1st Contact LIVE DVD yesterday. Overall wasn’t too bad given it’s Minorin’s first major solo live, but at the same wasn’t anything “OMFG” special I guess? I really need to re-watch the DVD to better judge it but if I had to rate it right now, I would probably say 6-7 out of 10? A must for any Minorin fan but (seiyuu) idol fans may be better off watching something else (like any of Nana Mizuki’s lives)… at least the included FP poster isn’t too bad ;)” Totally forgot to take a photo of the included poster but once I have my room done, I’ll try to remember to take a shot. In the meantime, I would suggest checking out townberry’s post on the DVD which includes shots of the DVD booklet to feast your eyes on.

Nana-chan’s DVD in all honesty I wasn’t even going to buy as being a “hardcore” fan would incur a lot more spending than even I’m willing to do, but after seeing the cover of the DVD I knew I just had to get it. Probably one of the better images I’ve seen of her as of late, the DVD cover just rocks! I would definitely hang a poster version of the image if I could get my hands on one! On the DVD itself, wasn’t too bad but didn’t help I’ve already seen like 2/3 of the PVs included. The “making of” section, at least, was more interesting to me if anything else cause I always love seeing those “behind the scenes” type of extras for any type of media. There’s also audio commentary by Nana (I assume) on the PVs but haven’t had a chance to listen to them yet; should be a kick if they’re as entertaining as the ones that were on her LIVE FORMULA concert DVD. Odds are I’ll give the DVD another look at this weekend along side Minorin’s as I’ll have more time to thoroughly enjoy them… plus they’ll keep me occupy until this comes out.

Well you do live back East and with this housing slump I don’t think many of us can pick up and buy a house under the current circumstances. I know my plan to get a house with me and my brother got shot to pieces. At least your folks let you move in to a bigger space, and more living space is always good.

Have fun cleaning up, might be a good chance to throw out or sell some stuff or rediscover forgotten treasures! ;)

Obviously the best part of your room is the “D.A.R.E. To keep kids off drugs” sticker 8D

I would love to move to a bigger room since then I could decorate it from the beginning and the way I want it instead of having to think about storing all my stuff.

As the TV will play a big role in my dream room it must be set in the middle so that my surround system will work as it should.

But oh well. Nice to see that you´ve moved :) Always fun to read about what other people are doing.

You’re not alone. I too live in my parents basement, and its packed with games, figures, and random sheets of paper that might be from my textbooks due to me ripping it out when the term is over =]
Oh, got to warn you about living in the basement during winter times… it gets REALLY REALLY COLD!! Although I’m from Canada, you might not suffer as much as I do.
I’m just surprised you don’t have any posters.

  13. wackedfoo Says:

ah the basement…the proper environment for an otaku. lol jk…kinda.

  14. Kitsu-nee Says:

Those IKEA shelves are that popular? I got them for my figures because I thought they were really handy, but to think it’s common knowledge… I’m amazed xD

Ah moving… great opportunity to clear everything and cleaning once for all. Hope you’ll be comfy in your new “home” ^^
