Weeaboo Sunday

So last Sunday I decided to be a little weeaboo-ish and headed to Mitsuwa to kill a few hours with a friend. And boy, it sure was boring as hell adventurous as I learned how easily my wallet opens up when it involves anything remotely Japanese ^^
In all honesty if you’re expecting some epic adventure going to a Japanese supermarket, you’re reading the wrong blog. Beside spending way more money than I honestly should have, it was like going to any other place to eat and/or buy food… just with a Japanese flare to it?
Really the only thing adventurous about the trip was the randomness since it was decided on spontaneously and was somewhere to go for lunch that day ^^;; Once there, we pretty much headed to the food court to eat lunch where I ended up eating hamburger steak (surprisingly tender) and gyoza with rice. Nothing special but was decently filling plus quick. After eating, the day there pretty much consisted of a lot of random roaming and looking eventually ending with the above loot (M&Ms and scissors not included).
First off in the loot, good old taiyaki. I must have been to Mitsuwa a good amount of times thoroughout the years but never tried to get their taiyaki or try taiyaki in general. But years of watching anime with the characters eating the darn thing would make any average weeaboo interested right?
So was it worth it? Yes and no. Yes in the sense I can finally chalk eating taiyaki off my list of “things to do thanks to anime” but no as it was really nothing special. I blame general weeaboo nature and anime for making taiyaki more hyped up than it is as honestly, it was basically eating pancake dough with red beans. Now don’t get me wrong, pancakes and red beans are both awesome food stuffs but I was expecting something more; i.e. not something any Asian would have had eaten.
Even with my so-so experience with taiyaki, if I had chance I would definitely get more. While it’s nothing special, it’s definitely something different and slightly healthier than the normal (junk) food I eat. Plus it makes a great midnight snack that’s ready to eat after a quick reheat and toast.
… dang, writing this I’m getting in the mood for some right now *drools*
Daifukus… yet another somewhat disappointing first for me as it ended up being something I’ve had for years similar to a Chinese food stuff that I can’t name. So while I was able to check off another “things to do thanks to anime”, it sadden me to know daifukus weren’t anything too special if you’ve been around Asian foods long enough.
Well even with all the disappointments in trying taiyakis and daifukus, at least the recent issue of Megami put a smile on my face. I’m pretty sure there are reviews of this issue somewhere but for the life of me I cannot find them. Just know the CLANNAD poster with Tomoyo and To Heart 2 with Tama-nee makes it all worth it; the Nanoha related news, poster, and CD Drama are just extra icing on the cake!
If folks want me to take some quick shots of the posters, let me know although I’m 99.9% positive they’ve already been scanned and uploaded at the usual places if you know what I mean

Yeah…Kanon makes me want to eat taiyaki uguu~ (damn I have weeaboo nature). You’re lucky to find Megami Magazine 100, I didn’t find it in my shop. Yeah, Megami 100 is already scanned and Megami 101 too but I don’t find reviews from Shingo (Heisei Democracy).
lol wtf last sunday JP & I were at Mitsuwa too. I was having a strawberry banana parfait at the food court near the front ;P
I guess Kanon takes all the blame for all this taiyaki hype. But I guess the right way to eat it is to order it and then you ran away from the store to bump into some random guy (or girl) so your story can begin. LOL
But I want to try taiyaki as well. >_>
cream yaki > obanyaki > taiyaki
srsly.
MOCHI to TAIYAKI wheeeee. Daifuku are going to give me diabetes. D:
What’s with people misspelling the words nowadays? I seem to encounter more of them whenever I browse the net nowadays.
It’s flair, not flare.
I live right near Mitsuwa. I’ve only ever sen them selling taiyaki once. I think it was during the winter one year.
