I Can Die Happy Now

Back at the hotel taking a break after making some new friends and attending some kick arse panels. Specifically attended Mamiko Noto’s and Tomokazu Seki’s Q&A sessions. And yes, I got Mamiko Noto’s autograph!

Also finally met someone whom actually knows of me and got to give away my first “Church of Moyism” t-shirt. Unfortunately I did not catch the guy’s name but after talking with him for a bit, definitely know he reads my stuff (the poor soul). More details plus one or two photos after the jump.

Otakon Here I am

I am here.

After a good three hour drive, arrived to Otakon with little fanfare with one of my coworkers. Only had time to check out one panel after getting my badge, but left soon after to get some late night food at the Hard Rock Cafe close by. The panel I did see a bit of, Otaku Idol, wasn’t bad but at the same time a bit boring. Part of the issue was starting 45 minutes late, mostly due to setting up the audio and whatnot but otherwise it was a lot different than I thought it would have been. Maybe because I did not hang around for the actual contest, I thought the panel was literally like American Idol except with anime singers; it was not. Instead, a band, who’s name I did not hear or don’t remember, basically held their own concert. Only heard two songs, one was one of move’s songs from Initial D, but overall they weren’t bad. Probably would have been better if the bass/karaoke track wasn’t overpowering the actual vocals.

I would say a bit more about the overall atmosphere of the con but way too tired and I have to get up early. For those at/going to the con, look for me Saturday (today) with the following shirt: front and back. Odds are one can find me at least at the following: Mamiko Noto Q&A (11am-12pm), Maiko Noto Autograph (1-2pm), Tomokazu Seki Q&A (2:30-3:30pm), Byousoku 5cm (maybe), and Silent Hill: Bigger, Badder, Bloodier (9-10:30pm). If no one finds me during any of that time, I will be very sad

Otakon: Idea Phase FAILED

Quick update on the t-shirts. I may or may not have them available when I head to Otakon. If I do, I’ll be wearing my version only on Saturday to make it easier for folks to find me, but will have the shirts to give away with me all the time. Look for the Asian guy wearing a light blue (you could almost say gay looking blue) t-shirt with this on the front and this on the back. Also if I do have the shirts, do know I had to get them printed in a different color due to the printers’ equipment having issues with dark color shirts; the new ones have the same logo on the back as the one I’ll be wearing but will be in ash grey. Sorry, no domokun on the front. I’ll try to post actual photos of the shirts if I have time (and if of course, I actually get them).

For those interested in my Otakon plans, I’ll be pretty free as I don’t have much planned. Only really planning on going to Mamiko Noto’s and/or Tomokazu Seki’s panels and autograph sessions on Saturday, if possible but I have a feeling Seki’s may be hard as hell to get in. Since I won’t arrive until Friday evening, seeing either of the two may be unlikely but I still have hope. Beside the seiyuus, probably try to see Otaku Idol as well if I make it in time. Also may try to meet up with some anime bloggers, like super rats if I can find them.

Not positive if the hotel I’m staying at with friends has free wifi, but if I find the time and place, I’ll try to do some live blogging. No promises though.

I forgot to mention, to get a t-shirt off of me you’ll have to tell me your online handle and/or how you knew; I would like to give out shirts to folks I somewhat know instead of total strangers whom just happen to hear some guy is giving away free stuff. Also, I demand would like a photo with us together posing with the shirt if possible

EDIT: Yes! I got them and they turned out pretty well. Unfortunately domokun looks like one of the ghost from PacMan but considering the discount the printers gave me for all my troubles, it’s all good.
